Mandi – Business Baazigar

March5, 2013, room no. 005 was all packed with mixed feelings of aggressive selling, alluring future managers with unique products, multi colored decorations, and spirit to earn more and more money projecting their ideas and products as unique. The event was the “MANDI” organized by Prayaas E- Cell, Jaipuria Jaipur. Mandi was a program where students worked on right from conceptualizing of idea to selling products to become serial entrepreneurs. Mandi was the time to use all management fundas used in class, mixed with enthusiasm and risk taking abilities. The variety of offerings ranged from customized handmade products, delicious moth watering delicacies to beautician and laundry services.
 “MANDI”, yet another feather in the cap of E cell - Prayaas. All sellers tried to commercialize their inherent to the maximum possible extent and generate maximum revenue.  Some fighting for break-even whereas some managed to generate as much as 200% revenue! And even the group that generated 200% revenue faced stiff competition from another group which made Zero investment and made good use of their inherent skills.
“It started with curiosity to know, how it feels to enter into a venture and make it a success.  So there we were trying our hands on this inner inquisitiveness of being an entrepreneur, our idea was to capitalize on our talent and devote our strength and energy for participating in this event. (Whatever was left after tormenting classroom session). The faculty and students assisting as volunteers were encouraging and highly spirited about the whole process and it was an experience worth cherishing all our life.” Says students.
When asked, how the concept of mandi is helpul in future business initiatives, guess what Tanya & Suchi has to say, “After participating in mandi we found that managing even a small business was not so easy. Lot many things go side by side, proper attention is required for each aspect. Knowledge of one particular function is not enough; it requires knowledge of every function like marketing, finance, selling, operations etc.”
AUCTION...!!
T-shirts made by jaipuria’s students auctioned at jaipuria institute of management during mandi event an auction activity was performed by study group number 3.  The t-shirt’s painted by students for t-shirt painting competition were auctioned with lines “Batorlo aapne dosto ki kushiya..’’ the event was hosted by vishal Sharma. The t-shirts painted were sold with different prices. Some took it for their friends. It was a joyful event people enjoyed the interesting prices at which the t-shirts were sold at.
 

In toto, Mandi aroused those entrepreneurial spirits which would either have got lost in search of opportunity or would have never seen the light of the day because of secured job preference among the youth. Entrepreneur works for himself and the amount of labour - be it physical or mental is tremendous. Therefore, few people try to put their feet in entrepreneurial shoes and after that only few survive. But their survival depends not only the on product they are selling, but the strategies they are crafting and executing. Therefore, this becomes the survival of the fittest. Everyday is a real Mandi, where one has to survive. Mandi not just tested the wits and guts of the budding entrepreneurs, right from the inception of a business idea to its execution, but also aimed at grooming their business instincts and ability to convince the people to buy their product. At the end of the day two bet business baazigar’s at Jaipuria Jaipur were adjudged.



Blood Donation Camp
Donating Blood is a life saving measure especially when you have a rare blood type. Blood donation is safe and simple. It takes only about 10 minutes to donate blood - less than the time of an average telephone call, says students of Jaipuria Institute of Management, Jaipur. To motivate, and familiarize students with the importance of voluntary Blood Donation Jaipuria Jaipur in association with Swasthaya Kalyan Blood Bank, Jaipur and Metro Mas Hospital organized voluntary blood donation camp on 5th March, 2014 during E-week – Abhyudaya – Youth festival in campus.
Lauding the noble initiative of Jaipuria students, and donors, Dr. Sheenu Jain, Coordinator, Parivartan – CSR initiative said, that nothing is more ennobling and satisfying than to donate blood for someone else’s life. But there are very less people who understand this and come forward to contribute in this life saving effort. She called upon students to understand the importance of regular, voluntary and non- remunerated blood donation which can avert a significant number of deaths. Entire Parivartan team also motivated the donors during the blood donation camp.
Approximately 80 students, volunteers, and faculty members thronged to donate blood. Besides, a test for HIV, Hepatitis B, Hepatitis C, Malaria, and blood group will be done and the subsequent report will be sent on the postal address of the respective donors.  It was heartening to see that the institute succeeded in infusing the spirit of participation amongst students for the cause. The entire blood donation camp was planned and coordinated so well by Mr. Hemant Baweja.

Snatch it up- is what we called our young photo enthusiasts who were roaming all around to click a Bomb. The competition revealed a deep understanding of how corruption is a cancer on society that must be stopped.
We asked participants aged between 18 and 25 years old to send images of the damaging effects of corruption on their world or to make us visualize what people can do to stop it.
“The extraordinary talent exhibited in the hundreds of submissions shows young people around the city understand the terrible damage wrought by corruption and reveals a sincere desire to stop it. Young people clearly want to take a stand against corruption,” said Dr. Sheenu Jainn, coordinating photography competition.

If you can dream it, you can do it. But how?

Walt Disney, that indefatigable creator of mouse and duck, once said, “If you can dream it, you can do it”. I agree with Disney; without the dream, there is no starting point, no passion and no goal. Yet in my experience, it is the next, more practical step that stumps most aspiring entrepreneurs. The actual act of getting that flesh and blood venture off the ground and into the business space is what they find unnavigable.
Having created many businesses in HCL, I would like to impart some practical advice about the things you should consider when you are embarking on your exhilarating venture.
Create a business plan
Confucius said it best‚ “A man who does not plan long ahead will find trouble at his door”. The only practical, realistic and safe way to transform your dream into a reality is through the creation of a thorough business plan. This plan should incorporate clarity of the market you are entering, the share you want to garner and the competition you will face.
It should also be a roadmap that details your strategies for sales and marketing, pricing and hiring the right people for the job. Take time to explore the legal ramifications of the various decisions and choices you make, look at trademark and copyright law and decide what kind of company suits your purposes the best. I would highly recommend being constantly in touch with a chartered accountant and familiarizing yourself with business.gov.in.
Coupled with this, an entrepreneur should place a high value on creating an exhaustive financial plan that details all the risks they may face. Most startups focus only on profits, they underestimate the importance of the cash flow. Looking at issues such as the cost of staying in the business for one year, the burn rate per month and keeping in mind the time it takes to collect money and the credit available, may make the difference between a successful company and one struggling to make ends meet month-to-month.
Name matters
Many young people tend to gloss over the importance of a strategic and well-thought-out name. It should be easy to pronounce and represented by a simple, but eye-catching logo. A bonus is the availability of a dotcom and dotin domain name.
What’s in a name, you may ask? A name will define what you do and dictate how people perceive you. HCL got its name because, in those days, only government and large companies could incorporate ‘Hindustan’ in their nomenclature. This gave us, a young, upstart organization, a weight and reliability beyond our years and proven performance!
Importance of a leader
The team, the people who make up an organization, are the nuts and bolts of any venture. While I myself have been involved with startups where all the founding partners take up multiple roles in the interest of getting the job done, it is immensely important to have one clear leader.
I say this because a ship always sails better with one captain. Every person should have their specific role and responsibility, but the job of translating the core vision should lie with one key individual.
When you are building your team, focus on filling your ‘need-gaps’. Define the roles your organization requires and fill these spots with qualified people who add value to the project; not simply with friends. Also, many young ventures make the mistake of hiring great ‘subject matter people’ (for example, tech for tech companies) but ignore accounting and finance.
Another oft-neglected part is sales and marketing. Coming from this background, I cannot stress the significance of competent salespeople who are capable of bringing in the bacon.
Do not make compromises and hire part-time employees or try and get the least expensive people in the market. Select highly trained, intelligent salespeople and you will reap the benefits of this investment

Theme: Understanding Organized Retail Stores: First Hand Experience
Students of marketing, & retail management visited the Triton Mall to have first-hand experience and understand the organized retail sector. Students visited variety of retail formats from supermarket, departmental stores, to specific specialty store. They spent around 4 hours looking at segments like grocery, food and beverages, apparel, lifestyle etc. Overall, it was an exciting trip full of learning, and students were able to transform their classroom learning into practical insights.

Overall the day was exciting , joyful and very satisfying.

Awareness Rally & Pamphlet Distribution @ Clean City – Green City

Jaipur the Pink City observed the Awareness Campaign “Keep our City Clean and Green” on Tuesday with awareness rallies. With globalization and rise of the business era, there lies a huge responsibility towards the environment on the entrepreneurs. Hence in this e-week India we march to create awareness among youth by having just one motive in mind i.e. clean city- Green city. With enthusiasm and determination, our students took the march forward with a motto in heart; to nurture nature for future. Spreading the word a clean city is healthy and great city. As said by M.K. Gandhi, “nature has sufficient to feed everyone but not sufficient to feed the greed. Various do’s and don’ts to keep the city clean were publicized through the pamphlet distribution and slogan shouting in one voice.an approach by Jaipuria Jaipur to create awareness to the city people for the pink city.

Nurtured Plants

In this week celebrating the entrepreneurial spirit we as future entrepreneurs upheld the duty to plant a seed that will grow to be a tree one day with proper care similar to the youth today that will grow to become a strong workforce supporting our country. On this occasion more than hundred students from Sakhi Bal Niketan, young students, faculty & staff members of Jaipuria planted saplings of different varieties on campus. On this occasion each one of us should decide to nurture the saplings we have planted today, said Ms. Sudha Johri our special guest for the day. This kind gesture of Jaipuria family will go a long way in improving the campus eco system, and environmental standards of the local area. The campus of Jaipuria Jaipur provides a green environment soothing the air within. The faculty of Jaipuria took active part in the activity of tree plantation, each student put their effort in bringing a seed of their choice to plant in the campus with a pledge to take care of it .We as Jaipurians have a long history in being an eco-friendly campus supporting various programmes of going green and inviting activist to create awareness of green globalization.

We at Jaipuria Jaipur celebrated Anand Mela as part our week long E-week Celebration. The day was indeed a source of “Anand”,the event justifies itself with the name, an activity involving NGO children. An act to bring joy and cheer even for one day brings great contentment to one’s soul. Our institute Jaipuria Jaipur and its students have always been enthusiastic in taking part and organising social events as such. Over 100 children of Sakhi Balniketan NGO were invited to take part in the fest specially organized for them. Every person of the Jaipuria campus was in full enrolment on his or her role for the mela. No stone was left unturned. Sack race, Drawing competition, race, lemon race and dancing were certain activities organised by the students for the children. The children also watched some videos of Chhota Bheem and Doremon. Our student Anil Singh took the role of entertaining children by enacting in a costume of a popular cartoon character “mickey mouse”, completely engrossed in the smile of the surrounding crowd he was able to bring forth the mission for the mela, to bring joy to them. Food is the favourite for all kids and when it comes to the sweets, they are more precious than diamonds for children. Hence, proper attention was given while deciding for the snack. It is heart-warming to look at 100’s of children enthusiastically eating the pastries, patties and various other delicious items offered to them. The students were eagerly serving and helping them in there reach for snacks. Another round of games took place reviving the energy of children after a light brake.
The mela ended with lots of memories to be cherished all life. It is an achievement to be a reason for smile on face of a child. With heart-felt words of pleasantries, the event was brought to close with a promise to meet again.
When I was child, the world seemed to be a place of joy and happiness to me. There was nothing worth worrying.  The most difficult part was to decide whether to have an ice-cream or chocolate.  Few lines which always run down by my mind whenever I think about my childhood days- “Ye daulat bhi le lo, ye shohrat bhi le lo, bhale cheen lo mujhse meri jawaani, magar mujhko lauta do bachchpan ka saawan, wo kaagaz ki kasthi, wo baarish ka paani”. The childhood cannot be forgotten. The memories over whelm me with its beauty and wonder. 
The experience of being part of Anandmela was out of the world. Children were playing and were spreading joy and cheerfulness. The smile on their faces was eye pleasing and created a heart warming experience. They happily moved around students asking so many questions- Didi, aap ka naam kya hai? Bhaiya , mujhe yeh chaiye..Didi, mujhe vo chahiye and the list went on.
Anandmela- An event of joy, happiness and smiles all around which can never be forgotten.

The Inspirational Movie Screening – Pursuit of Happiness

As the theme of the entrepreneurial week suggests innovating for India a movie, broadcasting similar sentiments portraying the adage necessity is the mother of invention was shown to the students. The movie shows how strong will and determination can change a person's life. Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness" is one of the most famous phrases in the United States Declaration of Independence. These three aspects are considered among the "unalienable rights" of man.

Based on true events, The Pursuit of Happyness (the incorrect spelling is explained in the film) follows Chris Gardner (Smith) as he struggles to achieve the American dream. Chris has everything going against him. His wife left him and he is raising his 5-year-old son alone, without any real income. Determined to provide for his son Christopher (Jaden Smith) no matter what, Chris enters an unpaid internship program at a brokerage firm in hopes of landing the one paid position available at the end of the training program.

Sleeping in bathrooms, homeless shelters, and shabby hotels when he has the money to afford a room, Chris never gives up on the idea he can land a job and provide his son with a better life. Chris went on to become a successful businessperson and to form his own multi-million dollar brokerage firm.

The available students, the motivated and inspiring coordinators, members of the Media club and the faculty enjoyed the day of learning, fun, camaraderie, appreciation and overall getting into the groove of working in a group. When one looks back at the day it was a fast, rational day. The people who were present enjoyed every moment of amity, comradeship and the intense passion of the students who were part of the processes as well as the students managing various affairs was infectious, to say the least.
